Identification & best seen
Grey with a long down-curved bill; in flight, startling crimson wing-patches.
Habitat & where to see
Sheer canyon walls and cliffs (e.g. the Vrbas canyon); descends lower in winter.
It creeps up vertical rock like a feathered mouse, fluttering its scarlet wings for balance.
