Identification & best seen
Cream with black tiger-stripes and long hindwing 'tails' with a blue-and-orange eyespot.
Habitat & where to see
Orchards, scrub and flowery slopes, especially in the warm south.
Despite the name it is anything but scarce across much of the Balkans, where orchards suit it well.
