A robust, shy ancestor-cousin of the house cat, haunting old forests and rocky valleys. Rarely seen and easily mistaken for a large tabby.

Stockier than a domestic cat, grey-brown with a thick, blunt, ringed tail; very secretive.

Habitat & where to see

Deciduous and mixed forests, scrub and rocky slopes.

Fun fact

Its bushy, black-ringed tail with a blunt tip is the surest way to tell it from a stray tabby.
