lisičarka · Cantharellus cibarius
A golden, funnel-shaped mushroom with a faint apricot scent, gathered by the basketful from mossy forest floors and a fixture of autumn markets and menus.
Identification & best seen
Egg-yellow, vase-shaped, with blunt forking ridges (not true gills) running down the stem.
Habitat & where to see
Mossy ground in mixed and conifer forest, summer–autumn.
It smells faintly of apricots — one way foragers tell it from poisonous look-alikes.
